But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people…
– 1 Peter 2:9–10
Our role as priests reframes how we see our daily lives. Every conversation becomes a potential opportunity for witness. Every workplace, neighbourhood, and relationship becomes a site where for the gospel to be proclaimed. The Holy Spirit has been given not only for personal comfort but also for ministry. He empowers believers to speak, testify, encourage, and reconcile people to God. When we neglect this calling, we abdicate a fundamental aspect of our new identity. But when we embrace it, we become conduits of God’s light in a world longing for redemption. To live as a royal priesthood is to recognise that God has placed His mission into our hands, and He has equipped us with His Spirit to carry it out faithfully.
Prayer
Father, thank You for calling me out of darkness and making me part of Your royal priesthood. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I may boldly proclaim Your excellencies and faithfully lead others toward Your saving grace. Amen.
Meditation
In what specific ways can I proclaim God’s excellencies this week to those who most need to hear of His mercy and light?
