Week 49 Day 3 – Every Believer Empowered by God’s Spirit

In the Old Testament, the priestly office was restricted to the tribe of Levi, and the ministry of speaking God’s word was often limited to prophets specially anointed for that task. Joel’s prophecy announces that God Himself would pour out His Spirit on “all flesh.” Age, gender, class, and lineage would no longer determine who could represent God or bear His message. Every believer would receive the Spirit, and with the Spirit, the authority and empowerment to speak on God’s behalf.

The Spirit’s outpouring at Pentecost signals that every follower of Christ is now called and empowered to participate in God’s mission. Speaking God’s word is no longer the domain of a select few; it is now the shared responsibility of the whole church. Through the Spirit, believers are equipped to bless the nations by declaring the gospel, building up one another, and embodying God’s purposes. When Christians outsource their witness to professionals, they risk forfeiting the reason why the Lord poured out His Spirit on them. But when they declare God’s word by the power of the Spirit, they fulfill God’s vision of a people who mediate His truth to the ends of the earth.
