Human beings were created to be God’s image-bearers, that is, those who stand between God and creation as representatives of His rule and channels of His blessing. In this sense, Scripture presents humanity as “go-betweens,” a priestly people from the very beginning. To bear God’s image is to reflect God’s character, steward His world, and mediate His good intentions to all that He has made. Creation thrives when humans carry out this vocation faithfully.
The priestly vocation also works in the other direction, where we lift creation’s voice back to God in worship. When we live in ways that reflect God’s glory and bring honour to His name, we are fulfilling the very purpose for which we were made. Conversely, when we refuse this priestly calling, when we distort God’s character or live for ourselves, we diminish our humanity. Human flourishing is found in embracing the priestly role for which we are created.
Prayer
Lord, help me to live as Your image-bearer. Teach me to reflect Your goodness to the world and to return to You the worship You deserve. Restore in me the joy of my priestly calling. Amen.
