Paul concludes his entire discussion on generosity with a single, soaring declaration of praise. After tracing how giving meets needs, strengthens unity, and awakens thanksgiving in others, he brings the reader to the ultimate foundation of all Christian generosity: God’s “inexpressible gift.” This gift is Christ Himself, the full and perfect expression of God’s grace, poured out for our redemption. Paul’s final exclamation reveals that every call to give, serve, or sacrifice rests upon the immeasurable, incomparable generosity of God in the gospel. Our giving is simply our grateful response to what we have first received. When we meditate on the vastness of God’s mercy in Christ—His self-giving love, His sacrificial obedience, His triumph over sin and death—our hearts are drawn into worship, and generosity becomes both natural and joyful.
All the blessings we observe in the ministry of generosity are ultimately fruit of the gospel working in and through God’s people. We give because Christ has given Himself for us; we love because He loved us first. The greatest act of giving is God’s, and all our generosity is simply a grateful echo of His unfathomable kindness. As we stand in awe of this gift, our lives overflow in praise, gratitude, and joyful participation in His work.
