Jesus defines eternal life not in terms of time or place, but in terms of a relationship: to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent. This is not about knowing about God, i.e., accumulating facts, reading articles, or reciting doctrines. One can read a thousand encyclopedia entries about a person and still not know them. To know someone is to share life with them in a personal and mutual relationship. Eternal life, then, is not merely the hope of living forever; it is the reality of living with God, beginning now and lasting into eternity.
This changes how we think about Christianity. It’s not a religion built on rules, rituals, or even theological precision though all those have their place. At its core, Christianity is an invitation to enter into fellowship with the living God through Jesus Christ. He is the one who makes that relationship possible, the one who reveals the heart of the Father, and the one who reconciles us through His cross. Without Jesus, we can know about God, but we cannot know Him. But through Jesus, the door to eternal relationship is opened wide. And this relationship—knowing God truly—is eternal life itself.

Lord Jesus, thank You for making it possible for me to know God—not just facts about Him, but to walk with Him as Father and Friend. Teach me to seek Your face, not just Your gifts. Help me grow in true relationship with You, day by day. Amen.

Am I content with knowing about God, or am I pursuing the deeper joy of truly knowing Him through daily relationship with Jesus?
