For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

One of the most stunning truths of the gospel is that God reconciled us to Himself while we were still His enemies. We were not neutral or indifferent toward God; our hearts were estranged, our wills resistant, our minds darkened in unbelief. Yet in that state of opposition, God made the first move. He sent His Son to die for us—not when we were repentant or deserving, but when we were hostile. The cross is the ultimate act of divine peacemaking, where the innocent Son bore the penalty that belonged to God’s enemies so that we could become His friends.
But Paul goes even further. If God was willing to reconcile us when we were against Him, how much more now—now that we are no longer enemies but friends, beloved and welcomed—will He save us through the ongoing life of His risen Son? Christ not only died; He rose and now lives forever, interceding for us in heaven (cf. Rom 8:34; Heb 7:25). His resurrection life guarantees our final salvation. He is not a distant Saviour who worked in the past; He is a living Lord who continues to act for us, sustaining our faith, securing our hope, and bringing us safely home. The cross turned enemies into friends, and the resurrection ensures that this friendship will never be broken.
Prayer
Gracious Lord, I marvel that You reconciled me even when I stood as Your enemy. Thank You for turning hostility into friendship through the death of Your Son. Now that I am Your friend, let me rest in the assurance that the risen Christ is interceding for me, and that I will be saved completely by His life. Amen.
