You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

– Matthew 5:14-16

Jesus’ words remind us that discipleship is not confined to the temple, but also tested in the marketplace. The light of Christ was never meant to be hidden behind church walls or private devotion; it is meant to shine in public spaces among colleagues, clients, and competitors. When believers bring Christlike love, humility, and excellence into their work, they illuminate their environments with the presence of God. The workplace is our mission field, not only because we share the gospel with our acquaintances, but also because our conduct, compassion, and integrity bear witness to a different kingdom.

The world often measures success by profit, power, and position. But the believer shines brightest when their work points not to self but to the Saviour. The goal of our labour is not applause but glory that through our good works, others may perceive the goodness of God. To live and work as light in the world is to turn every task into testimony, and the workplace into witness-place.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, make me a light in my workplace. Let my words and actions reflect Your character, so that others may see not me but You. May my work bear witness to Your grace and draw others to glorify Your name. Amen.

Meditation

How can you let the light of Christ shine more intentionally in your workplace so that others may see Him through you?
