When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
– Collosians 3:4
To say that Christ is our life is far more than saying He gives us life. The apostle Paul is describing a union so complete that our existence is now defined by His. We are not simply followers trying to imitate a distant Saviour; we are participants in His risen life. Every breath of true spiritual vitality comes from Him. The Christian life is not self-effort empowered by grace, it is divine life expressed through human existence. This means that living out Christ is not about adding Christ to what we already are, but allowing all that we are to be animated by who He is. The believer no longer draws life from ego, success, or circumstance, but from the indwelling Christ.
When Paul says that we will appear with Him in glory, he speaks of the final revelation of what is already true now: Christ is our life. The glory to come will simply unveil what has been hidden in the present. Our task, then, is not to construct a godly life through moral effort, but to yield to the life that is already within us. As we learn to abide, Christ’s character gradually takes form in our affections, priorities, and relationships. Living out Christ means letting the life of Christ showing itself through the vessel of our humanity.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are my life. May every part of who I am reflect the reality that You dwell in me and that I belong wholly to You. Amen.
Meditation
In what areas of my life am I only trying to live for Christ, rather than allowing Christ to live through me?
