…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. – Ephesians 6:17b–19
Yet Paul reminds us that the word of God must be wielded prayerfully. Prayer in the Spirit keeps the army of God connected to the Commander, and dependent on His direction. Without prayer, we lack the strength to wield the sword effectively. With prayer, the Spirit empowers our speech and action so that the gospel goes forth with boldness. This is how the church advances—armed with the word of God, energised by prayer, and emboldened by the Spirit. Then the church will be a conquering army, plundering the kingdom of darkness until every tongue confesses Jesus as Lord.
