The mystery of godliness is centred on Christ Himself. Many scholars believe these lines are from an early hymn, celebrating the person and work of Jesus. The first line declares that the eternal Son of God took on flesh. God became flesh to redeem us. His earthly life, His resurrection (“vindicated by the Spirit”), and His heavenly witness (“seen by angels”) reveal the depth of God’s saving work.
For the church to be the pillar of truth means holding firmly to the reality of Christ’s incarnation and resurrection. These are not optional doctrines but the very foundation of our faith. We proclaim a Saviour who is both truly God and truly human, crucified and risen, the one who bridges heaven and earth. Without this confession, the church ceases to uphold the truth.

Lord Jesus, thank You for being manifested in the flesh and vindicated by the Spirit. Keep me rooted in the truth of who You are and what You have done. May I never drift from the wonder of the incarnation and resurrection. Amen.
