After hearing what the crowds thought, Jesus turned to His disciples: “But who do you say that I am?” It is the most important question, one that every generation must answer. Peter’s reply is short yet profound: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” His confession is not due to human opinion but divine revelation. To confess Jesus as the Christ is to recognise Him as God’s anointed King, the fulfilment of Israel’s hope, and the Son of the living God who brings God’s rule on earth. This confession is the foundation of the church, the outpost of the kingdom.
Peter’s confession is not mere doctrine; it is the heartbeat of our faith. Everything the church is and does flows from this truth. We gather because He is the Christ. We worship because He is the Son of the living God. We witness to the world because His kingship is good news for all nations. This confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, is the solid rock upon which the Lord will build His church.

Lord Jesus, I praise You as the Christ, the Son of the living God. Thank You that this confession is the rock on which Your church is built. Help me to hold fast to it with joy and courage. Amen.
