Paul reminds Timothy that from his earliest years, he had been nurtured by the sacred writings—what we now call the Old Testament. But Paul doesn’t praise the Scriptures simply for being morally upright or spiritually enriching. He highlights their ultimate value: they are able to make us wise for salvation. How? Not by works of the law or religious rituals, but through faith in Christ Jesus. Even the ancient Scriptures were designed to lead people to saving trust in the Messiah.
This verse speaks to us today. The Bible is not a random collection of spiritual thoughts. It is God’s unified message that draws us to His Son. It teaches us the truth about our sin, the depth of God’s mercy, and the way to eternal life. Whether we are reading Genesis or Isaiah or the Gospels, the goal is the same: to become wise; not merely in knowledge, but in faith. Scripture, rightly read, always brings us face-to-face with Jesus, because it is through faith in Him alone that salvation comes.

Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word, which leads me to Jesus. Help me not just to read the Bible, but to grow wise in faith through it. Let every page point me to the grace and truth found in Christ, and help me walk in the salvation He offers. Amen.
