Receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands.

Jesus promises that whatever you give up for His sake, you will receive back a hundredfold, not only in heaven, but now in this time. What Jesus is referring to is the assurance that in the Church, the community of His followers, we gain a new home, a new inheritance, and most of all, a new family. Brothers, sisters, mothers, and children are all found in Christ. The Church is where the lonely are set in families, where the orphaned are embraced, and where shared love replaces blood ties.
But let’s be honest: many of us struggle to experience church this way. Congregations often feel like clubs, formal institutions, or activity centres. Anything but family. The warmth and self-giving of true kinship may be lacking. And yet, Jesus’ words are prescriptive. He calls the Church to become this new family for one another. We don’t merely receive family; we are called to be family. When we welcome others, share life, open our homes, and carry one another’s burdens, we fulfil Christ’s hundredfold promise—not just to ourselves, but to one another.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the promise of spiritual family. Help me not only to look for it, but to be it. Make me a spiritual parent or sibling to someone who needs to know they belong. Amen.
