But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
– Psalm 1:2
Delight and meditation go hand in hand. What we love, we linger over. Just as someone in love keeps recalling and repeating words from their beloved, the blessed person rehearses God’s Word day and night, savouring its wisdom and sweetness. Unlike worldly meditation that seeks detachment or emptiness, biblical meditation brings attachment to the living God through His Word. It fills the heart with His truth until it flows naturally into thought, speech, and action. This is what makes the Word not just a text to study, but a life-giving fountain to drink from continually.
Prayer
Lord, help me to savour Your Word with joy and persistence. Teach me to meditate on Your truth. May Your Word dwell richly in me and overflow into every part of my life. Amen.
Meditation
When I meditate on Scripture, do I actively chew on it repeatedly in my mind and heart like hagah suggests? How can I make meditation a more living and joyful practice?
