I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.

– Phil 1:3-5

When Paul thinks about the Philippian church, he thanks God because their partnership in the gospel did not fade with time. From the very beginning of their life together in Christ, they stayed with him. They did not drift away when circumstances changed. Their partnership was not built on convenience or emotion, but on a shared commitment to the gospel.

This is what makes gospel partnership different from so many other relationships. Many connections begin with excitement but weaken when the journey becomes demanding. Paul rejoices because the Philippians did not treat the gospel as something to support briefly or selectively. They stayed in it. “From the first day until now” speaks of faithfulness over time. This kind of partnership grows as God’s people commit themselves to the gospel and to one another, doing God’s will side by side.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for placing me in the company of others who walk this journey of faith with me. Give me a heart that stays faithful, not only at the beginning, but over time. Help me to remain committed to Your gospel and to the people You have called me to walk with. Amen.

Meditation

Where am I tempted to pull back when faith becomes costly, and what would it look like for me to stay committed to gospel partnership over the long term?
