Week 31 Day 2 – Flammable or inflammable material?

Paul now shifts from the foundation to the materials used in building upon it. The church may be founded on Christ, but not every contribution to it is of equal value. Gold, silver, and precious stones suggest enduring, costly work that aligns with Christ. Wood, hay, and straw, on the other hand, may be easier to gather and assemble but will not survive the fire of divine scrutiny. The coming Day of the Lord will expose everything for what it truly is. In other words, the judgment of God will not merely punish evil but evaluate and purify what we have built.

This is a sobering reminder that flashy ministries, successful programs, or even impressive church growth can be made of combustible materials if not grounded in sincere faith, obedience, and love. God does not merely assess how much we have built, but what sort we have built. Are we serving for our own glory or for Christ’s? Are we discipling others in the Word or simply attracting crowds? The fire will strip away every appearance and reveal the true substance of our labour. This is not meant to discourage us, but to purify our motives and call us to faithfulness in all we do.
