Week 36 Day 2 – The armour of God

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

– Ephesians 6:11-13

The battle the church faces is not against mere human opposition—governmental persecution, cultural rejection of Christ, family objection to faith—but against spiritual powers operating behind the scenes. The enemy is real, cunning, and relentless, and his schemes are designed to weaken our faith, sow division, and hinder the advance of God’s kingdom. But God has not left His people unprotected. He commands us to put on the “whole armour of God,” that is, to be completely empowered by God’s own power. Every piece of the armour is necessary if we are to stand firm against the enemy.

This call to “put on” the armour reminds us that spiritual readiness is essential to the battle. The Christian life is not one of passive drifting but of active readiness. The church as God’s army must not be naïve about the seriousness of spiritual warfare, nor complacent about the need for divine equipping. When we stand steadfast in the Lord, equipped with His armour, victory over the enemy is a forgone conclusion.

Prayer

Lord, help me to take seriously the spiritual battle I face each day. Clothe me with Your full armour so that I may stand firm against every scheme of the enemy. Keep me alert, ready, and steadfast in You. Amen.

Meditation

Am I putting on the full armour of God daily, or am I leaving myself exposed to the enemy by neglecting that I am engaged in spiritual warfare?
