For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
– Rom 1:19-20
The problem with humanity is not the absence of evidence for God, but the refusal to acknowledge what is plainly seen. Creation testifies to God’s eternal power and divine nature. These qualities are not vague impressions—they are “clearly perceived” in what has been made. God has not hidden Himself. The world around us bears unmistakable signs of a Creator: the order of the universe, the complexity of life, and the moral awareness found in every human heart. People are without excuse because God’s self-disclosure through creation is enough to make us responsible for recognising Him.
This truth challenges a common misconception—that unbelief is mostly about lack of access to information. Scripture tells us instead that people reject God not because He is unclear, but because they suppress what they know to be true (cf. Romans 1:18). The issue is not ignorance but resistance. This teaches us that evangelism is not merely an intellectual task, but a spiritual one—we are calling people to stop suppressing the truth they already know. God has made Himself known. The real question is whether we are willing to respond.
Prayer
Righteous God, forgive me for the times I have suppressed the truth or hardened my heart against what I knew was right. Give me courage to speak the truth to others, and humility to respond rightly to all that You have made known. Amen.
Meditation
In what ways might I be ignoring or resisting what I already know to be true about God?
