Week 50 Day 4 – Until You Hear His Name

The name Jesus means “He shall save.” From the very beginning, before the baby draws His first breath, heaven announces that this Child has come for one great purpose: to save. Christmas isn’t truly Christmas until we hear this name and understand why it was given. The manger is not an end in itself; it is the starting point of a rescue mission that will lead all the way to a hill outside Jerusalem.

We often surround Christmas with lights, gifts, and songs, and rightly so—there is joy here. But the deepest joy comes when we see the shadow of the cross falling across the cradle. The angel does not say Jesus will teach His people, or lead them, or even heal them, though He will do all those things. The angel says He will save them from their sins. The Babe in Bethlehem is born to die in our place, to bear the punishment we deserve. Only when we hear His name and grasp its meaning does the cradle become the beginning of our redemption story.
