Then she arose with her daughters-in-law to return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the fields of Moab that the LORD had visited his people and given them food.
– Ruth 1:6
In the fields of Moab, Naomi heard a life-changing report: the Lord had visited His people and provided food. At her lowest point, with nothing left — no husband, no sons, no future—this news sparked a new beginning. It was not Naomi’s strength, goodness, or cleverness that changed her course; it was the message of God’s gracious action that stirred her heart. Hearing of God’s provision, she arose and returned. The Gospel works the same way: we do not fix our famine-stricken lives first; we hear the good news of God’s grace in Christ and are invited to turn and come home.
The Gospel is the ultimate “good news” that the Lord has visited His people with the Bread of Life. Like Naomi, we stand in the fields of our own “Moabs”—places of loss, disappointment, and spiritual hunger—and we are called to respond to what God has done. We are not asked to bring our resources or achievements, only our empty hands and broken hearts. Will we hear and arise?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for calling me back through the good news of Jesus. Help me to respond with faith and not delay when You invite me home. Amen.
Meditation
Where in my life do I need to respond today to the Gospel’s call to arise and return to God?
