In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation…
– Ephesians 6:16-17a
The helmet of salvation secures our hope in Christ. A soldier without a helmet is fatally vulnerable, but with it he can press on with courage. In the same way, the assurance of salvation guards us from despair and confusion, keeping our perspective clear amidst the chaos of battle. Salvation is both our protection and our rallying cry: Christ has already won the decisive victory, and we share in it. The church, therefore, advances not in fear of defeat but in the assurance of triumph. With faith as our shield and salvation as our helmet, we are an unstoppable army, moving steadily into enemy territory with the certainty of God’s victory.
