So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite her daughter-in-law with her, who returned
from the country of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest.

– Ruth 1:22

Naomi and Ruth arrive in Bethlehem just as the barley harvest begins. It is no coincidence: God’s providence is setting the stage for their restoration. The barley harvest takes place around Passover, the season of new beginnings, freedom, and life for God’s people. Though Naomi feels empty and hopeless, she has returned at precisely the time when the fields are beginning to yield their grain. Without even realising it, she is stepping into a season of provision, redemption, and fresh hope.

We may spend years wandering in “Moab”—places of disobedience, loss, or despair—but the moment we turn back to God, He meets us with new mercies. In Christ, our return is never met with rejection but with open arms and fresh beginnings. Even when we carry the scars of the past, God’s timing and grace ensure that new life awaits. The crucial thing is to return. When we do, we find that God was already preparing the harvest before we ever took the first step home.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that in Christ, every return to You is a new beginning. Help me trust in Your timing and grace. Amen.

Meditation

What “Moab” am I still holding onto that I need to leave behind to experience God’s restoration?
