Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
– 2 Corinthians 9:7
A cheerful giver is not someone who pretends that giving is painless. Instead, cheerfulness arises from knowing that giving is an opportunity to participate in God’s work and reflect His character. This means that cheerful giving requires tending to the heart long before the offering is made. Over time, as we open ourselves to God’s generous salvation, we discover that joy and generosity grow together. The more we give from the heart, the more we sense that God is shaping us into people who resemble Him in kindness, compassion, and love.
